Five Timor Leste citizens arrested in Mataram

The Mataram Immigration Office in West Nusa Tenggara arrested five Timor Leste citizens on Monday for allegedly misusing travel documents and breaking Indonesian regulations.

The five people allegedly used travel documents to enter Indonesian territory so they could later work in the country. “Mataram immigration officers arrested them in Lembar waters, West Lombok, on Monday morning,”Sevial Akmily, the office head of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Law and Human Rights Ministry, told reporters.

Separately, 162 Military Region Command/Wirabhakti Mataram commander Col. Inf. Farid Makruf said military personnel would continue monitoring the movement of foreigners within NTB territory.

Farid said the military arrested 12 Chinese nationals in West Lombok recently. “We have submitted the case to the immigration office to further process it.”

The 12 Chinese trespassers would be deported soon.

Farid said destinations like Lombok and Sumbawa, also in NTB, attracted foreign tourists, but they also potentially misused tourism for other purposes.
