Xanana Gusmão to speak at ASEAN Peoples’ Forum

Dili, Radioliberdadeonline– 02-08-2016- The ex-Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Xanana Gusmão who is the current minister of planning and strategic investment, is scheduled to speak at ASEAN Peoples’ Forum (APF) on the 4th of August 2016.

Xanana who is also the ex-top commander the Timorese National Liberation Army FALINTIL will be sharing with APF’s participants on Celebrating ASEAN Change: People at the Centre, Timor-Leste’s APF Co-Chair, Fernando “Ato” Costa says.

The ex-Prime Minister Xanana is confirmed to come to the conference. It is the moment at which the participants from ASEAN member states can directly share their experiences with him, he says.

Ato affirmed that the topic, which Mr. Xanana would concentrate, was aimed at promoting the evolution of nations in ASEAN must translate into a people centered governments in ASEAN. So that ASEAN can be able to transform itself to embrace people as its asset.

Other key-note speakers that will also speak at the conference are Eva Sundari, the current Indonesian parliamentarian, Dr. Htay Kywe, a member of Parliament of Myanmar, Teodoro Baguilat Jr, member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines, Cheap Sopheap, the executive director of Cambodian Center for Human Rights, Charles Santiago, a member of the Parliament of Malaysia, Aderito Hugo da Costa, House Speaker of Timor-Leste and other speakers from the region.  

The August Forum will be the largest ever staged in Dili with more than 800 people scheduled to attend .400 of the participants are coming from ASEAN states.

Although ASEAN has not taken any position to ratify the membership of this newly independent country, after a long and thorough process of consideration, we ASEAN Civil Society organizations agreed to organize the ACSC/APF 2016 in Timor-Leste as our show of solidarity.

APF’s NOC hands over statement to the Government of Timor-Leste

Dili, Timor-Leste – 30-07-2016- National Organizing Committee (NOC) of ASEAN Peoples’ Forum has officially handed over a statement of ASEAN’s civil society to the Government of Timor-Leste. It contains support for Timor-Leste’s inclusion of ASEAN and a fair settlement of the country’s maritime boundary issue, as well as other issues of the region.

  

“We embark first in a show of solidarity by organizing the ACSC/APF 2016 in Timor-Leste, to reiterate civil society’s support for the inclusion of Timor-Leste as a full member of ASEAN. The delay in including Timor-Leste as a full member of ASEAN is no longer justified as they have progressively fulfilled all the necessary requirements,” the statement reveals.

A key challenge experienced by Timor-Leste revolves around its maritime boundaries and exploitation of its natural resources. We renew our solidarity with the peoples of Timor-Leste in their unfinished struggle to achieve full sovereignty and to be able to exercise their right to self-determination, it says.

 During the ceremony of handing over the statement on Friday (29/7), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Roberto Soares thanked NOC of Timor-Leste for the preparations, which it has made so far for the upcoming regional conference and the handing over of the statement.

Wiranto. “CARRASCO” DE TIMOR COM SUPERPODERES NA INDONÉSIA

Organizações de direitos humanos criticam a nomeação para coordenar cinco ministérios do general Wiranto, um dos militares acusados pela ONU de crimes contra a Humanidade durante a ocupação de Timor-Leste

A remodelação governamental decidida pelo presidente Joko “Jokowi” Widodo continua a gerar críticas no que respeita à nomeação do general Wiranto como ministro para a coordenação dos Assuntos Políticos, Legais e de Segurança. Uma tarefa que inclui as pastas dos Negócios Estrangeiros, Interior e Defesa.

“Junta um insulto à injúria. No dia seguinte a ordenar uma nova ronda de execuções, o presidente Jokowi decidide por o controlo do aparelho de segurança em alguém que foi acusado de crimes contra a humanidade por um tribunal da ONU”. Foi desta forma que o diretor regional da Amnistia Internacional, Josef Benedict, reagiu à remodelação, anunciada a 27 de julho. O responsável para o Sudoeste Asiático e Pacífico salienta no site da organização o profundo “desrespeito dos direitos humanos”, apenas 24 horas depois da decisão presidencial de executar mais 14 pessoas.

A nomeação de Wiranto apanhou muitos analistas de surpresa. Depois da tentativa falhada de concorrer à presidência do país em 2014, Wiranto tem mantido uma presença discreta na cena política nos últimos dois anos. Mantém-se há 12 anos na liderança do Hanura, o Partido da Consciência Popular que fundou depois da derrota eleitoral de 2004.

O general nunca deixou a atividade política apesar das várias acusações internacionais sobre o seu papel durante a ocupação de Timor-leste entre dezembro de 1975 e outubro de 1999. Decidida pelo presidente Suharto, a invasão e consequente ocupação de Timor-leste terá originado a morte de, pelo menos, 100 mil pessoas num território com cerca de um milhão de habitantes.

RETROCESSO NOS DIREITOS HUMANOS

O governo do mais populoso país de maioria muçulmana justificou a nomeação de Wiranto com o facto da Indonésia ser um dos principais alvos dos terroristas, incluindo ativistas internos ligados ao Daesh.

Para o diretor para a Ásia do grupo de defesa de direitos humanos Human Rigths Watch, “a alegada cumplicidade no assassínio, incêndio e expulsão forçada em Timor- Leste em 1998 habilitam Wiranto a um julgamento”. “Não para um lugar no Governo”, disse Phelim Kane ao “Jakarta Post”. O general também está envolvido em acusações na própria Indonésia, como a morte de quatro estudantes nas Universidade de Trisakti, na mesma altura.

“É um retrocesso”, afirmou, por seu turno Andreas Harsono, um investigador da mesma ONG ao “South China Morning Post.Harsono salienta que agenda presidencial soobre os direitos humanos está comprometida.

MERCADOS SAÚDAM REGRESSO DE INDRAWATI

Wiranto sucede Luhut Pandjaitan outro militar da “linha dura”. Para muitos observadores, o antigo ministro terá sido afastado pelo presidente na sequência das controversas declarações no âmbito de uma investigação de um massacre de militantes comunistas nos anos 1960. Em junho, Pandjaitan declarou aos juízes que investigam o caso estar plenamente convicto “que os cuministas mereciam morrer”.

A nota positiva da remodelação governamental de Jokowi foi a nomeação para a pasta das Finanças de Sri Mulyani Indrawati, uma reputada economista que estava na direção do Banco Mundial. Indrawati regressou a Jakarta para voltar a ocupar o cargo no ministério que abandonou em 2014 depois de grandes críticas por parte dos setore mais conservadores do governo.

Macau e Hong Kong em alerta devido a tufão

Macau, China, 01 ago (Lusa) - Os serviços meteorológicos de Macau e Hong Kong emitiram hoje avisos de tempestade tropical devido à aproximação das duas regiões do tufão Nida.

Nas duas regiões administrativas especiais chinesas foi hasteado o sinal 3 de tempestade tropical (numa escala de 1 a 10 e onde não existem o 4, 5, 6 e 7), que significa que os ventos constantes poderão ter entre 42 e 62 quilómetros por hora com rajadas de cerca de 110 quilómetros por hora.

Segundo a informação divulgada pelos Serviços Meteorológicos e Geofísicos de Macau, às 19:00 locais (12:00 em Lisboa), o tufão estava a cerca de 330 quilómetros de Macau e estava a aproximar-se "gradualmente" do território.

Os serviços estimam içar o aviso de 'storm surge', que corresponde ao perigo de elevação do nível das águas e de inundações, às 06:00 de terça-feira, não descartando também içar o sinal 8 de tempestade tropical nas próximas horas.

A aproximação do tufão já levou hoje ao cancelamento e atrasos de voos no aeroporto de Macau, o mesmo acontecendo com as ligações marítimas com Hong Kong. Estão também cancelados dezenas de voos previstos para terça-feira.

Por outro lado, o Instituto Cultural de Macau pediu aos responsáveis pelo património histórico para "desencadearem uma proteção adequada e antecipada" dos edifícios.

Em Hong Kong, onde o sinal três foi içado às 11:40, esta tarde já tinham sido cancelados centenas de voos agendados para hoje e terça-feira, em antecipação à passagem do tufão Nida, de acordo com a imprensa local, assim como ligações marítimas às regiões vizinhas.

Com o sinal 3 hasteado, as autoridades recomendam a recolha de embarcações em abrigos e "portos de segurança", verificar o estado de portas e janelas, a desobstrução de sarjetas e goteiras e o acompanhamento das informações meteorológicas.

O observatório meteorológico de Hong Kong informou que poderá subir o alerta para sinal 8 esta noite.

O número oito significa ventos fortes a soprar ao nível do mar, a velocidades entre 63 e 117 quilómetros por hora, com rajadas que podem exceder os 180 quilómetros por hora.

O tufão Nida, conhecido como Carina nas Filipinas, provocou chuvas fortes nas ilhas de Samar e Catanduanes.

Catarman, na ilha de Samar, registou 312 milímetros de precipitação entre sexta-feira e sábado.
